Following is the text from the plaque on the Wall of Honor at HHS. Current and future Salthawks pass by the Wall of Honor each day where they may be inspired by the accomplishments of some of our outstanding alumni.
Kenneth Goertzen '40
Plant Geneticist
Mr. Goertzen has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the area of plant genetics. The only interruption in his work is when he served a 4-year tour of duty in the U.S. Coast Guard. A patent for wheat was granted to Mr. Goertzen in 1996. This patent may be the only one ever granted for wheat.
The life of Mr. Goertzen has been a combination of hard work in his chosen field of wheat and sorghum research. He has served as a consultant throughout Kansas, the United States and in more than 25 foreign countries. His life goal has been helping to feed the people of the world.
Dedication to his profession and all of humankind assures Kenneth Goertzen an honored place as a member of the Hutchinson High School Wall of Honor.
