Following is the text from the plaque on the Wall of Honor at HHS. Current and future Salthawks pass by the Wall of Honor each day where they may be inspired by the accomplishments of some of our outstanding alumni.
James Cordell Dick '58
International Pianist, Performer and Instructor
Internationally-acclaimed pianist James Cordell Dick remains "Jimmy" to his friends and classmates at HHS. While in high school, he gained the reputation of being the person to ask if one wanted something done correctly, promptly and courteously.
Dick has been awarded two Fulbright Fellowships, received the Royal Academy's Beethoven Prize, the Tobias Matthey Fellowship, the Recital Medal for Performance and was elected as an Honorary Associate of the Royal Academy of Music. In 1979, he received the prestigious Presidential Citation, the highest honor given by the National Federation of Music Clubs in America.
Dick established the International Festival-Institute at Round Top, Texas, to provide a place where talented young musicians can learn from the most acclaimed musicians of our time.
Performing beautiful music and creating an atmosphere of learning for young musicians assures James Cordell Dick a distinct place on the Wall of Honor.
